Honor her

"A mother's love is patient and forgiving when all others are forsaking, it never fails or falters, even though the heart is breaking"

"A mother will always forgive her child no matter what wrong is done to her"

Unequal Ageing

Unequal Ageing

1. Seventeen per cent of older people have less than weekly contact with family, friends and neighbours, and 11 per cent have less than monthly contact. (source: Victor, C., Bowling, A., Bond, J. and Scambler, S. (2003)  Loneliness, social isolation and living alone in later life, Swindon: ESRC)

2. Rising number of elderly abandoned at public hospitals in Malaysia. Ninety-five percent of abandoned elderly came from poor families. (source: The STAR - Monday, October 8th, 2012)

3. Why the elderly are not given the time of day today

  • change in society's value
  • assumption that society/government is responsible
  • payback time
  • need to work to make ends meet (aka busy)
  • financial constraints
  • simply do not want to look after their elderly parents
  • could not make sense of the changes in parents' behaviours (due to insecurity, depression  and loss of memory etc.)
  • need/want space and privacy

past, present, future

choice of living - past, present, future

some live in the present
enjoying, entertaining
and be entertained
hardly thinking of the future

some live for the future
the present, deferred
surrendering self
sacrificing
hoping for a better future

(now that autumn is gone and winter is here to stay (for how long... no telling for sure)

busy becomes an excuse
of not being present
when the past calls...

ache, loneliness and tears
the only companion
present

Stirred and Moved

Shaken and stirred ... but not moved?

to stir is to rouse, as from indifference, and prompt to action
to move is to initiate an action; act

how to shake and stir the entertainment-centered generations to move beyond what is comfortable and familiar to think others?

Another year

Another year
a new season full of promises
to partake and to give
to steer and to direct

run and keep on running
despair not
surrender never
keep on moving
steadily

run with purpose
run with discipline
run to win

and keep on asking and inquiring
inquiring and asking and exploring
and when opportunities come knocking
welcome them with open arms and minds
and give thanks for the blessings!!!

Purpose of Life

William Arthur Ward once said:

The adventure of life
is to learn

The purpose of life
is to grow

The nature of life
is to change

The challenge of life
is to overcome

The essence of life
is to care

The opportunity of life
is to serve

The secret of life
is to dare

The spice of life
is to befriend

The beauty of life
is to give

The joy of life
is to love
